Your daily distillation of crypto news for Monday, March 4, 2019:
Let’s Talk About Dapplets
An Ethereum community member recently posted a proposal for what they refer to as «dapplets» on the Fellowship of Ethereum Magicians’ forum. Under this proposal, instead of injecting Web3 instances into dApps to process transactions, wallets would load and render dapplets that are not only able to process transactions but are also able to perform security checks. The poster believes this alternative transaction-processing setup would enable «better adoption and security» for dApps.
Processing transactions in wallets rather than dApps would reportedly allow all relevant information to display when individuals go to sign transactions. The poster calls this the «what you see is what you sign» principle. Another benefit to using dapplets, the poster adds, is that Web3 could be injected into certain legacy sites like Twitter.
Melons for You and Me
According to Melonport chief technology officer Jenna Zenk, v1.0 of the watermelon protocol is out in the wild. Using this protocol, individuals can establish a «technology regulated and operated fund» (TROF) on Ethereum. These TROFs, at their core, are on-chain, decentralized investment funds.
The watermelon protocol also allows each user to define a ruleset to govern their TROF, invest in their own fund, and track and observe their fund’s metrics, among other features. However, Zenk advises potential users to «do [their] own research» before using the protocol, as the codebase «is very dense and complex» and will likely have more bugs.
Breed Some Virtual Ethereum Weed
Yes, you can collect and breed cannabis flowers on a blockchain thanks to Flowerpatch, an Ethereum indie game in development from the folks at California-based blockchain gaming company Nugbase. In the game, individuals will be able to build their own farms and trade strains with other players.
The game will run on Nugbase’s SEED, an ERC20 token functioning as the game’s currency. Players can earn SEED from their FLOWERs after the plants have completed their life cycles and are harvested – somewhat like earning money from real-life cannabis farming.
The Flowerpatch alpha is set to be released a little later this year.
